Who are the mountain lions?

At one time, there were women’s football teams in Rockford, Chicago, Madison, Wausau and Racine. In 2019, the Midwest Mountain Lions brought women’s tackle football back to southeast WI and northeast IL which has seen 11 teams come and go since 1999. The Mountain Lions joined the WFA (Women’s Football Alliance). Unfortunately 2020 was our first season to play, which did not happen. In 2021, we continued to be affected by COVID. Our first active season was in the developmental division for the 2022 season and we went 0-4. There were only 15 players on the roster in 2022.

In 2023 we started recruiting at softball, rugby, MMA gyms and other places to find womxn that want to play football.

The 2024 season, we were moved to D3 and although we had several starters out with injury, WE MADE THE PLAYOFFS!!! We are the 2nd team in WFA history to make the playoffs their first year of eligibility.

We’re building towards the future of women’s tackle football. Our team includes players and coaches from a diverse background who have come together to create a strong community where we strive to build the sport, achieve success on the field, and help our communities. Our mission is to help womxn improve and engage through competitive football and sisterhood.

Why are we different from other teams?

The family culture within the Mountain Lions is set by the players. The veterans that have been with the team since the beginning chose everything from the colors of the uniform, the logo design, the team name and our “alter ego” the Danger Kitty!!!

Players also designed and/or created the spirit wear available to our fans, we choose the playlist you hear at the games, we work as a team on the posts on all of our team socials and more! We are a family!

  • 16 with parent permission. Otherwise it is 18 plus.

  • Come and check out a game! We generally hold open tryouts from October through January. We must set our Roster in February.

  • YES! Just like the NFL, we play in whatever Mother Nature sends us! We had one game start with rain and end with snow! You never know what can happen!

  • Football takes bodies of all types. Do you have a body? Yes? Then welcome to tryouts!!!
